Bulimia

Project type

Acrylic painting on canvas

Date

November 30, 2020

Location

Sherbrooke, QC, Canada

Dimensions

(5x) 12 x 16 in

The artist depicts four Caucasian women venting their psychological distress. She symbolizes each of the main causes of eating disorders: genetics, social pressure, trauma, and the beauty ideal (amplified by social media). Western beauty standards are symbolized by using hair to veil their faces, illustrating the parallel between bulimia sufferers, primarily women, and their loss of identity in the face of societal expectations. The artist's own hair is incorporated into the painting.

I am a digital animation artist whose practice is rooted in the exploration of mental health.

I work in collaboration with people experiencing diverse psychological realities, in order to transform their inner narratives into visual languages. My approach unites art and humanity, seeking to create images that listen as much as they reveal.
