May 1, 2017

Location

Jacmel, Haiti

00:06:49 (hours, minutes, seconds)

A documentary by Nathan Kneeshaw-Smargiassi, Clémence Vandycke, Freud Drouillard, and Wilnie Saint-Jean.

Despite the efforts of colonizers and hegemonic powers to eradicate Vodou from Haiti, the religion persists, bucking the trend of discrimination in the country. Mambo portrays Fanise, a Vodou priestess, who sheds light on the secrets of this inclusive religion.

This film was produced as part of an international student exchange between the Film and Communication departments of Cégep de Saint-Laurent and the Artists Institute of Jamel, Haiti.

I am a digital animation artist whose practice is rooted in the exploration of mental health.

I work in collaboration with people experiencing diverse psychological realities, in order to transform their inner narratives into visual languages. My approach unites art and humanity, seeking to create images that listen as much as they reveal.
